IAPMO R&T Certifies Compliance to Texas HB 2667

IAPMO R&T, North America’s premier plumbing and mechanical product certification agency, is first in fast, trusted certification to Texas House Bill 2667.

The State of Texas recently joined California (AB 715) as the second state to require high-efficiency toilets in all new residential and commercial construction effective Sept. 1. HB 2667, signed into law on June 19, mandates that toilet and urinal manufacturers phase in High Efficiency Toilets (HETs) over the next four years, starting with 50 percent of in-state sales by Jan. 1, 2010, and culminating with 100 percent by Jan. 1, 2014.

An HET is any water closet that uses no more than 1.28 gallons of water per flush (GPF), or 20 percent less than the 1.6-GPF models mandated by the National Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct).

Manufacturers wishing to establish compliance to the laws in either Texas or California can enlist the services of IAPMO R&T, which can test and certify specifically to the laws or to the U.S. EPA’s WaterSense® criteria, which also meet the new efficiency standards.

“We’ll help you determine which is the best course of action for your company and perform the certification within a time frame that will speed your product’s introduction to the market, not slow it down,” said Shahin Moinian, senior director of IAPMO R&T.
