IAPMO’s Uniform Plumbing Code Technical Committee has released two formal interpretations concerning language in the 2006 and 2009 editions of the UPC.
To the question, “In accordance with Section 413.1 are all public-use lavatories required to be limited to a maximum temperature of 120°F?” the balloted members of the UPC Technical Committee voted “Yes” by a 23-1 margin.
To the follow-up question, “Does Section 413.1 only apply to fixtures designated as use for persons with disabilities?” the committee voted “No” by a 24-0 margin.
Of the 29 Technical Committee members eligible to vote, five did not return their ballots by the Sept. 30 deadline. The formal interpretations can be reviewed in their entirety by directing your Web browser here.
The Uniform Plumbing Code, like its counterparts the Uniform Mechanical Code®, Uniform Solar Energy Code® and Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code®, is developed using a consensus process accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The process for balloting formal interpretations is dictated by the Regulations Governing Committee Projects.
