The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) will present a Backflow Prevention Assembly Repairer training and certification course at its 81st Annual Education and Business Conference, Sept. 26-30, in Seattle, Wash.
This 20-hour course for individuals seeking to become a certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Repairer culminates with a 50-question certification exam through the American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE), publisher of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) recognized Professional Qualification Standards (ASSE Series 5000). ASSE certification is recognized throughout the United States and internationally.
Participants can expect to discuss the basics of backflow prevention assembly repair, as well as safety, reporting, product performance, product test equipment and proper terminology. The course is recommended for Backflow Installers, Testers, Water Purveyors, Code Officials (Chief Administrator), Plumbing Officials, Mechanical Officials, Plumbers, Plumbing Contractors and Engineers.
This certification is recognized by the State of Washington, as well as the remainder of the United States, and is approved for 2.0 Continuing Education Units for renewal of expiring certifications.
Instructor Dr. Stuart Asay, P.E., founder and director of IAPMO’s Backflow Prevention Institute® (BPI), has been teaching backflow prevention classes since 1984. A registered professional engineer in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah Wyoming, Texas, Arizona and Oklahoma, Asay founded BPI in 1987 and helped create the Department of Public Health and Environment’s Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations, Article 12: Hazardous Cross-Connections. He is a voting member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Backflow Preventer standards committee and earlier this year received ASSE’s Fellow Award for exemplary service. Asay is a certified plumbing inspector through IAPMO and ICC for 23 years.
IAPMO’s Backflow Prevention Institute® provides education and training services to increase both private and professional awareness of potential hazards to the public drinking water supply as they relate to backflow and cross connections. Backflow prevention programs protect the public health from intentional and unintentional contamination of the public’s potable water supply.
Early-bird registration (before July 30) for IAPMO’s Education and Business Conference including the Backflow Prevention Assembly Repairer course is $560 for IAPMO members, $685 for non-members. (IAPMO one-year membership is $75, so non-members can join and save $50 off the non-member price.) After July 30, members pay $610, non-members $735.
