IAPMO R&T Provides ENERGY STAR® Certification for Tankless Water Heaters

IAPMO R&T, North America’s leading provider of third-party certification services for plumbing and mechanical products, has completed ENERGY STAR® certification for two manufacturers’ lines of energy efficient tankless water heaters.

Manufacturer Noritz received ENERGY STAR certification for four models and Grand Hall for two models.

Noritz’s propane and natural gas water heaters — NR50-OD (Natural Gas), NR50-OD (Propane), NRC98-DV (Natural Gas), NRC98-DV (Propane) — are now ENERGY STAR certified to deliver around a 30 percent reduction in energy use over traditional tank water heaters while also reducing the levels of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere by at least 700 lbs. per year.

“It is Noritz’s philosophy to develop ultra-efficient durable and affordable tankless water heaters, said Bob Hitchner, senior vice president of Sales, Marketing & Business Development for Noritz. “The NRC98 is a new addition to our current EcoTough condensing line-up and the NR50 outdoor version will be a great solution to help Sunbelt homeowners to convert from tank to tankless.

“We want to thank IAPMO R&T for conducting the ENERGY STAR certification, just in time for Noritz to add two more series to an already full lineup of ENERGY STAR-rated residential water heaters.”

Grand Hall’s Eternal Hybrid Water Heaters — GU145 (S) and GU195 (S,M) — feature an energy factor as high as .96, which exceeds the minimum ENERGY STAR requirement of .82.

“At Grand Hall, we strive to provide innovative solutions that benefit the environment and our customers,” said Paul Home, vice president of Products and Marketing for Eternal at Grand Hall. “The Eternal’s versatile design and high-level of efficiency give residential and commercial users the endless hot water they need with minimal impact on the environment. Our GU145 (S) and GU195 (S,M) also have the ability to work with geothermal and solar applications. We are proud to be a part of the ENERGY STAR program and will continue to provide eco-friendly water heating solutions.”

A joint program of the U.S. EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy launched in 1992 as a voluntary labeling program, ENERGY STAR was expanded in 1995 to include residential heating and cooling equipment and later major appliances, lighting and roof products. Users of ENERGY STAR qualified products saved around $18 billion on their energy bills in 2010, eliminating greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 34 million cars.
