The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) has uploaded to its online download center the 2009 Uniform Solar Energy Code® (USEC) Report on Comments book. Published within this document are the final ballot results from the June 12, 2009, meeting of the USEC Technical Committee.
The Report on Comments (ROC) is published during the final year of each code’s development process. This document contains the comments received on proposed changes, the committee’s action and the committee’s statement explaining any non-affirming votes. For members of the Technical Committee who choose to abstain from voting or voted negatively, a statement as to their reasons is also included.
The USEC is a model code developed by IAPMO to govern the installation and inspection of solar energy systems as a means of promoting the public’s health, safety and welfare. The 2009 edition, due for release in October, is being developed for the first time through a process accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). IAPMO’s Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC©) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC©) have been developed via an ANSI consensus process since 2001.
The advantages of a Uniform Solar Energy Code, acceptable in various jurisdictions, had long been recognized, prompting IAPMO to pass a resolution at its 1975 annual business conference that directed the president to form a committee to develop a basic solar energy document. After months of concerted endeavor, this committee, composed of representatives from industry and public utility companies, inspectors, plumbers and engineers, successfully completed the first edition of the USEC, which was officially adopted by IAPMO in September 1976.
The ROC will be available for public review for 21 days.
