IAPMO Backflow Prevention Institute Affiliates with World Plumbing Council

The IAPMO Backflow Prevention Institute (BPI) announced an associate affiliation with the World Plumbing Council (WPC) at their meeting Nov. 19 in Tokyo, Japan.

In making the announcement, Dr. Stuart Asay, director of the Institute, noted that this was the continuation of a long-standing relationship between the two organizations. BPI and the WPC worked together in the latter’s formative years.

BPI was formed nearly a quarter of a century ago, with a mission of furthering education and training in the prevention of backflow contamination and controlling cross connections in drinking water systems everywhere.

“With worldwide water shortages and enhanced communications, people everywhere are becoming more and more aware of the need to protect their supply of drinking water,” noted Asay. “Not only is the awareness growing, but the methods and procedures of the protective measures appear to be coming together into similar protocols.”

He concluded by stating, “BPI is honored to be a part of the World Plumbing Council, and looks forward to sharing knowledge and expertise for the betterment of plumbing and drinking water systems everywhere.”
