Haws Corporation Gains Electrical, Plumbing Certification from IAPMO R&T

IAPMO R&T, North America’s premier plumbing and mechanical product certification agency, has completed electrical and plumbing certifications for Sparks, Nev.-based Haws Corporation, manufacturer of drinking fountains, eyewash stations and emergency equipment.

In all, four products have been formally certified to U.S. and Canadian electrical/plumbing standards for sale in North America: Both the Model 2000 and 2000SM Hydration Stations, the Model 7500EB Heated Eyewash Station and the Model TWBS.EW.H Tempered Water Blending System. All of these products include plumbing and electric components and have been comprehensively certified as compliant to the standards governing both aspects of their use.

In addition to these new certifications, Haws has certified all of its drinking fountain models to the Uniform Plumbing Code® and Section 116875 of the California Health and Safety Code, the state’s recently-enacted low-lead plumbing law. Haws entrusts its certification needs to IAPMO R&T due to the certification body’s long-standing reputation in the industry and green leadership vision in support of sustainability and emerging technology.

“What could have been seen as an inconvenience, due to perceived duplication of effort considering Haws’ traditional approach to certification, turned out to be both a positive and educational experience for all involved,” said Michael Markovsky, vice president of marketing for Haws. “Haws found that IAPMO inspectors diligently worked with manufacturers to remove hurdles and refine product designs if needed. This solid working relationship thereby speeds up certifications and ensured the best-finished product possible.

“Haws was pleased to find that IAPMO inspectors also took the time to explain testing protocols and procedures that heretofore had been somewhat shrouded in mystery. For some, inspectors and manufacturers tend to have an adversarial relationship. In contrast, Haws felt that their experience with IAPMO turned out to be a true collaboration, with the end product’s purchaser and/or end-user the true beneficiary.”

IAPMO R&T’s electrical scope accreditation extension from ANSI includes such electro-plumbing products as Whirlpools (covered by UL 1795), spas (covered by UL 1563) and the components within them. Other products fitting within the scope of this accreditation include electrical faucets, flushometer valves and similar plumbing fixtures utilizing electrical components.

The ANSI accreditation enables IAPMO R&T to expand its menu of certification services in order to ease the burden placed on many clients, which previously have had to certify their products for the plumbing aspects of their use through IAPMO R&T and the electrical aspects through another third-party certification body. This, of course, added cost and time to the process, thus slowing the product’s delivery to market.

IAPMO R&T certifies and lists electrical, plumbing, mechanical and solar products according to established US and Canadian codes and standards, ensuring continuous compliance to such documents. IAPMO R&T is part of The IAPMO Group’s family of companies.
