IAPMO’s Uniform Evaluation Service Opens Office Near Birmingham, Ala.

As part of an initiative to provide service more quickly and efficiently to customers throughout the United States, IAPMO’s Uniform Evaluation Service (UES) has expanded with the opening of a new office near Birmingham, Ala.

Senior Engineer Bart W. Berneche, PE, is managing the new office, which is located at 7640 Commerce Lane, Suite 200, in Trussville, Ala. Berneche, who joined IAPMO in April, has more than 30 years’ technical experience in construction and quality assurance, with the past 20 years as a civil/structural engineer. He came to IAPMO after spending six years with ICC Evaluation Service, serving most recently as senior staff engineer evaluating a wide range of building products. Berneche also serves on the Board of Directors for the Structural Engineers Association of Alabama.

“We are excited to have a new office near Birmingham, Ala., situated strategically in the Southern United States, to serve the industry and jurisdictions,” said Richard Beck, vice president of IAPMO UES. “The new office is a concrete example of IAPMO Uniform ES’ commitment to providing enhanced and excellent service to the industry. Its presence will help increase efficiency and improve communication across time zones.”

Products recognized with an IAPMO UES evaluation report have successfully undergone evaluation based on applicable requirements within the Uniform Family of Codes and the International Family of Codes, as well as codes published by other entities. UES staff thoroughly examines manufacturers’ product information, test reports, calculations, quality control methods, and other factors to determine the products are code compliant.

The UES program is built upon IAPMO’s more than 70 years of experience in evaluating products for code compliance. Accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the program operates under ISO/IEC Guide 65, “General Requirements for Bodies Operating Product Certification Systems.”

IAPMO’s UES offers a full range of recognition opportunities, including recognition for the applicable national model codes, as well as Florida, California, and various other state codes. By combining all of these recognitions into one concise report prepared by an internationally recognized product certification body, the UES program reduces cost and increases value.
