IAPMO’s Uniform Evaluation Service Issues Certificate of Recognition CR-6001 to Powers Solar Frames, LLC

IAPMO’s Uniform Evaluation Service (UES) is pleased to announce that Arizona-based Powers Solar Frames, LLC, has earned Certificate of Recognition CR-6001, which documents that Powers’ in-house Inspection Program complies with the IAPMO Uniform Evaluation Criteria for Fabricator Inspection Programs for Structural Steel (EC-020) and is therefore recognized as an approved fabricator under Section 1704.2.5.1 of the 2015 International Building Code®, Section 1704.2.5.2 of the 2012 International Building Code®, and Section 1704.2.2 of earlier code editions. By demonstrating compliance with these criteria, Powers Solar Frames, LLC, has established that it has the necessary personnel, equipment, processes, and procedures in place to consistently manufacture products utilizing the GMAW process for welding in accordance with AWS D1.1. This allows for those applicable special inspections to be waived by the code official.

UES staff thoroughly examined Powers Solar Frames, LLC’s, in-house Inspection Program and quality control methods to determine that the system complies. Smith-Emery Laboratories, Inc. AA-554, will conduct quarterly third-party inspections.

“Powers Solar Frames, LLC, is extremely pleased with CR-6001, which recognizes our GMAW process for welding in accordance with AWS D1.1,” said Terry Cryer, manager. “As the first client of UES’ Fabricator Program, we experienced their friendly expert staff and great customer service. Powers Solar Frames finds UES’ timeliness and quality of service refreshing and we highly recommend them.”

The UES program is built upon IAPMO’s more than 70 years of experience in evaluating products for code compliance. Accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the program operates under ISO/IEC Guide 65, “General Requirements for Bodies Operating Product Certification Systems.”

UES Vice President Richard Beck, PE, CBO, MCP explains why Uniform Evaluation Certificates of Recognition are so valuable: “Powers Solar Frames, LLC, can now reference its CR-6001 to ensure that code officials quickly have the information required for their decision to wave applicable special inspections. We are pleased to work with Powers Solar Frames, LLC.” Brian Gerber, PE, SE, vice president of Technical Operations, adds: “It is exciting to add Fabricator Recognition to UES’ menu of services; after all, it’s a natural addition to our evaluation and listing programs.”

IAPMO’s UES offers a full range of recognition opportunities, including recognition for the applicable national model codes, as well as Florida, California, and various other state codes. By combining all of these recognitions into one concise report prepared by an internationally recognized product certification body, the UES program reduces cost and increases value.
