IAPMO Seeks Code Review Task Group Volunteers

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) is seeking participants who would like to volunteer to serve on code development task groups identifying and reviewing issues relating to the 2012 Uniform Plumbing Code® (UPC) and the 2012 Uniform Mechanical Code® (UMC).

These task groups will identify and review issues brought forth by IAPMO membership and industry with regard to the 2012 editions of the UPC and UMC, which were released March 1 as American National Standards, in an attempt to make the codes more user friendly. Each task group’s recommendations, along with a report of underlying issues, will be forwarded to the respective technical committee for review.

A Request for Information/Representation on Code Review Task Group form is available for download at www.iapmo.org. Meeting notices and agendas will also be posted there. The deadline to volunteer by submitting the proper paperwork is July 23.

The UPC and UMC are model codes developed by IAPMO to govern the installation and proper maintenance of plumbing and mechanical systems as a means of promoting the public’s health, safety and welfare. The 2012 edition of each code was developed through a three‐year cycle accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). IAPMO has utilized this consensus process for these codes since 2001.

IAPMO was granted Audited Designator Status by ANSI in September 2011, enabling the 85‐year‐old code development body to designate the UPC and UMC as American National Standards without receiving prior approval by the ANSI Board of Standards Review. The 2003, 2006 and 2009 editions of each code were designated in the previous manner.

For more information on the UPC and/or participating in the ANSI consensus process, please contact Matt Sigler at (909) 230‐5535 or matt.sigler@iapmo.org. For the UMC, please contact Hugo Aguilar at (909) 472‐4111 or hugo.aguilar@iapmo.org.
