IAPMO Releases 2012 UPC, UMC Study Guides

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO®) has released the latest editions of its useful Study Guides for the 2012 editions of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC®) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC®).

Developed as a tool for self-study or classroom training, the Study Guide assists users of the UPC and UMC in better understanding the requirements mandated by each code. Multiple-choice questions comprehensively cover key sections of every chapter of the codes. It is a useful tool for examination preparation for such certifications as inspector, contractor and journeyman, but is not meant to replace the intense study required for success on such exams, nor is it to be used as a replacement for the actual UPC or UMC.

There are many substantive differences between the 2009 and 2012 editions of each code and special attention has been paid to those changes in the Study Guides, including:
• UPC Chapter 16 – Alternate Water Sources for Nonpotable Applications
o System Design
o Maintenance and Inspection
• UPC Chapter 17 – Nonpotable Rainwater Catchment Systems
o Connection to Potable or Reclaimed Water Systems
o Collection Surfaces

Those seeking additional understanding of substantive changes from the earlier editions of the codes may also be interested in the 2012 Guide to Important Code Changes that IAPMO released earlier this year. This book breaks down each code change into an organized format that illustrates the notable code changes, explains why the changes were made, and describes how those changes will impact code users in the field.

Code users will find these publications to be an essential tool in getting up to speed on the new code changes that will affect their work in the field and classroom.

The 2012 UPC and UMC Study Guides and 2012 Guide to Important Code Changes are available in hardcopy and in a downloadable digital format via the IAPMO Online Store.
