Jakarta Selatan, Indonesia – More than 150 people on Thursday attended the fourth- annual IAPMO Indonesia Education Conference, an event that aims to promote the importance of good plumbing systems in improving the health and safety of Indonesian citizens, safeguarding the environment, and boosting the Indonesian economy.
The conference began with IAPMO Group CEO GP Russ Chaney announcing that this year’s Community Plumbing Challenge will be held at the SD Negeri Cicau 02 school in Cicau Village in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia. It will be presented in two parts — a “Design Week” in August and a “Construction Week” in November. CPC2017 will be presented by the International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation, in association with the World Plumbing Council.
Chaney attended the event along with Shirley Dewi, Senior Vice President of PT IAPMO Group Indonesia, and Ken Wijaya, Executive Vice President of PT IAPMO Group Indonesia.
“I was once again delighted and honored to celebrate World Plumbing Day with our colleagues from BSN (the Indonesian standards agency) and the U.S. Embassy and Department of Commerce here in Jakarta,” Chaney said. “This celebration of World Plumbing Day has once again given us the ability to stress the importance of access to clean water and safe sanitation systems while ensuring a positive impact on environmental concerns. It is always thrilling to see the interest and enthusiasm that exists in this progressive country and to work collaboratively with some of the regional leaders in water and sanitation systems. We were also excited to announce that the 2017 edition of the Community Plumbing Challenge will occur in November in Indonesia convened by IAPMO’s International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation — IWSH.”
Also at the event, BSN Deputy Director General for Research and Cooperation on Standardization I Nyoman Supriyatna presented Chaney with IAPMO’s ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17065 certificates of accreditation from Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN).
Supriyatna and Brian McFeeters, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, also offered opening remarks at the conference, which included educational sessions on the inherent value of good plumbing systems; why standardization of plumbing systems is important; and key technical elements of SNI 8153:2015, Plumbing Systems for Buildings — the national standard for plumbing that Indonesia released in March 2015 as part of the nation’s World Plumbing Day celebration — along with the importance of purchasing SNI-certified products.
“As we know, BSN, Ministry for Public Works and Public Housing, and IAPMO have been working together to develop the SNI:8153:2015 standard of plumbing systems in buildings,” Supriyatna said. “The SNI 8153:2015 is our commitment to ensure citizens’ protection in water supply and sanitation, and improve citizens’ health.”
“The Department of Commerce is delighted to have facilitated a grant supporting IAPMO’s work in Indonesia, which not only provides citizens with the basic right of clean water and safe sanitation, but also presents export opportunities for U.S. companies,” McFeeters said.
IAPMO and PT IAPMO Group Indonesia officials this year celebrated World Plumbing Day in Indonesia by visiting more than 200 children at Yayasan Rahmatan Lil-Alamin orphanage, teaching them about the importance of plumbing, sanitation and water conservation.
