ENERGY STAR® Certification Made Easy With IAPMO R&T

Of the numerous new services introduced by IAPMO R&T in recent months, we are perhaps most proud of our recognition by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy to provide third party certification to the ENERGY STAR® product labeling system.

ENERGY STAR® is a fantastic consumer value program that allows manufacturers to truly market the environmental and financial benefits of their products by identifying them with the easily recognizable ENERGY STAR® label. Qualifying products help consumers save money and protect the environment through energy efficient processes and practices.

Launched in 1992 as a voluntary labeling program, ENERGY STAR® was expanded in 1995 to include residential heating and cooling equipment and later major appliances and lighting. Users of ENERGY STAR® qualified products saved around $17 billion on their energy bills in 2009, eliminating greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 30 million cars.

In order to affix the ENERGY STAR® label to their product, however, manufacturers must submit them for testing at a properly accredited laboratory and have the results of those tests certified by a third party body such as IAPMO R&T. They may use either an EPA-recognized third party testing laboratory or enroll in IAPMO R&T’s Supervised Manufacturers Testing Laboratory (SMTL) program, which enables a manufacturer to utilize its own in-house laboratory while IAPMO R&T personnel conduct audits on site.

Manufacturers wishing to promote the energy-saving benefits of their products by labeling them as ENERGY STAR ® qualified can apply to do so now through IAPMO R&T, long recognized as a leader in third-party certification for its efficiency and commitment to customer service. Qualifying manufacturers are able to display their IAPMO R&T certified ENERGY STAR® qualification for the following products:
● APPLIANCES: clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators and/or freezers
● HVAC EQUIPMENT: boilers, room air conditioners, central air conditioners, air source heat pumps, water heaters, furnaces, residential ceiling fans
● COMMERCIAL FOOD EQUIPMENT: dishwashers, fryers, griddles, hot food holding cabinets, ice machines, ovens, refrigerators and/or freezers, steam cookers
● BATTERY CHARGING STATIONS (BCSs) n LUMINAIRES
● ROOF PRODUCTS

IAPMO R&T’s partnership with ENERGY STAR® makes the process simple to understand and quite easy to complete. Manufacturers need merely to have their products tested at an EPA-recognized third party laboratory. If testing proves the product complies with ENERGY STAR® standards, IAPMO R&T will confirm the results and certify that the product can bear the ENERGY STAR® label for energy efficiency.

That’s all there is to it. IAPMO R&T’s firmly established expertise in certifying many of these products for years enables us to handle each application quickly and efficiently — in fewer than 10 days — with customer service representatives who can walk any manufacturer through every step to ensure everybody is comfortable with the process.
