IAPMO Board Member David Gans Honored as PHCC’s Instructor of the Year

David Gans, senior building inspector for the city of Oceanside, Calif., and a member of the IAPMO Board of Directors, was honored as Instructor of the Year by the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors Association (PHCC) during its Connect 2013 annual business meeting at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Gans, director of the PHCC San Diego chapter’s Apprenticeship Program and a Year-Four instructor, has been teaching with PHCC for five years. His instruction focuses on preparing fourth-year apprentices for the exam to turn out as journeymen.

“It is an honor just to be nominated, but to be recognized by this group is overwhelming,” Gans said. “Fifteen years ago I would have never expected that I would enjoy teaching so much. To work with the students is very satisfying.

“I believe there will never be enough inspectors to assure that service and repair plumbing work is done properly. Being a part of training program like this, to teach how to install code compliant plumbing is the best way to make a difference in the plumbing community and the best way to be a positive influence to our newest plumbing generation.”

Holding a bachelor of Science, Public Administration, from the University of La Verne, Calif., Gans began his career as a plumbing and HVAC technician in the Building and Maintenance Division, city of Pasadena, and with Fallbrook Elementary Unified School District in Fallbrook, Calif. A licensed Los Angeles city and county plumbing journeyman since 1996 and a California licensed C-36 plumbing contractor, Gans has served as chairman of the IAPMO San Diego County chapter since 2008 and was elected to the IAPMO Board of Directors in 2012.
