National Inspection Testing Certification (NITC), a third-party provider of certification services to the piping industry, now offers Journey and Master Level plumbing and mechanical examinations based on IAPMO’s Uniform Plumbing Code® (UPC) and Uniform Mechanical Code® (UMC).
The announcement is the latest development in a partnership between IAPMO and NITC spanning more than three decades that previously had focused mainly on inspectors; these offerings expand the collaboration to include installers and other tradespeople.
Additionally, a number of states, including California, Kansas and Texas, as well as many local jurisdictions – essentially anywhere the UMC and/or UPC has been adopted – recognize the examinations as attesting to the knowledge of the certified professionals.
IAPMO Region 4 Director Bill Schweitzer said NITC and IAPMO worked together closely to make sure the open-book examinations truly measured the test taker’s grasp of the codes.
“NITC utilized people throughout IAPMO to develop the test and make sure everything was correct,” he said. “These are people who worked in the field and are either mechanical or plumbing people. It’s a great tool for IAPMO and NITC.”
NITC is ISO 9001:2008 certified and offers a large number of personnel certifications that include, but are not limited to, Journey and Master Levels, Medical Gas, IAPMO Voluntary Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector, and assorted city, county and state government requirements.
