Laura Ceja Promoted to UA Special Representative for Training and Outreach

General President Mark McManus is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Ceja as Special Representative for Training and Outreach. When she joined the Education and Training Department in January of2017, she served as a Training Specialist-National Recruitment and Outreach Coordinator.

Ms. Ceja began her career with the UA in 1997 at Local 761 in Burbank, CA, 24 years ago. She completed the apprenticeship program and became a journeyman plumber, pipefitter, certified brazer, and medical gas installer.

Using college credits she earned from her apprenticeship training at the UA, Ms. Ceja was able to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the National Labor College and a Master of Science in Leadership and Management from the University of La Verne.

Prior to her appointment as the U.A’s National Recruitment and Outreach Coordinator, Ms. Ceja worked for the City of Los Angeles as a Senior Plumbing Inspector and Training Officer. Ms. Ceja was also serving on the IAPMO Board of Directors and on various IAPMO committees, where she focused on recruiting and mentoring women in the trades. She was subsequently awarded the IAPMO American Flag award for her efforts in this field.

Ms. Ceja has also worked as an adjunct professor at UCLA Extension, where she taught graduate students and professional engineers Advanced Plumbing Systems Design. She also put her degree in education to work as an Apprentice Instructor for the UA, where she taught our newest members the fundamentals of plumbing.

Special Representative Laura Ceja brings her vast and varied experience to the UA and currently serves on various committees dedicated to recruiting women and underrepresented groups.
