IAPMO R&T Surpasses 100 Green Listings

Product manufacturers believe in the value of IAPMO R&T’s Green Mark of Conformity. To date, 120 unique manufacturers have completed Green certification for a plethora of solar and high-efficiency plumbing and mechanical products, assigning them a quickly identifiable label indicating the environmental/economical benefits these products offer.

Since it began the Green Certification Program in 2007, IAPMO R&T has seen a steady increase in the number of listings to these more strict sustainability-measuring criteria. Products are either listed under a separate “Green” file number or listed as a part of the existing file covering the products’ performance requirements.

Products certified as meeting “Green” standards without sacrificing quality or product performance include:
• Solar Energy Collectors, Solar Heat Exchangers and Solar Energy Systems
• EPA WaterSense Lavatory Faucets, Lavatory Faucet Components and Water Closets
• Dual Flush for Electrohydraulic and Gravity 1.6 Gallon Water Closets
• Dual Flush Devices for Water Closet Tanks
• Early Closure Flapper for Water Closet Tanks
• Hot Water Recirculating Systems
• Hot Water Circulating Devices that do not use a pump
• Flow Shutoff Devices with or without shower head
• Waterless Urinals

The prerequisite for such certification is that such products shall have certification to the applicable sections of applicable standards in the IAPMO R&T standards database and within IAPMO’s newly released Green Plumbing and Mechanical Code Supplement — a complement to any existing plumbing or mechanical code that overlays higher standards for water and energy efficiency.

“We place extra emphasis on Green products,” said Farhad Shahriary, compliance engineer for Acorn Engineering Company, California-based manufacturer of drinking water fountains, coolers and stainless steel plumbing products. “The benefits are twofold: a better environment for all and the extra advantage realized in the marketplace. The IAPMO R&T Green Mark is invaluable in helping us communicate the efficiency benefits of our products to consumers, contractors and building officials. There is no question that an IAPMO R&T Green label lifts our products to the level of a higher standard.”

IAPMO R&T certifies and lists solar, electrical, plumbing and mechanical products according to established U.S. and Canadian codes and standards, ensuring continuous compliance to such documents. IAPMO R&T is part of The IAPMO Group’s family of companies.
