IAPMO R&T, North America’s premier plumbing and mechanical product certification agency, has completed electrical and plumbing certifications for Delaware-based Speakman Company’s Model SE-4500 Heated Eyewash Station. The 140-year-old manufacturer of plumbing fittings, safety equipment and evaporative cooling systems transferred its listing from CSA International for U.S. and Canadian standards.
The Model SE-4500 is a gravity-fed portable emergency eyewash station with a 16-21 gallon capacity that includes an electric heater to maintain the wash solution at 75-95 degrees F in conditions as cold as minus-20 degrees F.
Speakman brought the SE-4500 to IAPMO R&T for plumbing certification, but transferred the electrical listing as well upon discovering the significant savings in costs and turnaround time gained by having IAPMO R&T perform both certifications simultaneously under one roof.
“With more and more of these products combining plumbing and electrical features becoming available, manufacturers will look for every edge to lower their production costs and speed their products’ release to market. IAPMO R&T can offer them one very effective way to gain that edge by combining certification services,” said Shahin Moinian, senior director of IAPMO R&T. “We are attentive to the client’s every need and provide the highest level of credibility of any third-party certification body.”
IAPMO R&T received the electrical scope extension from ANSI on July 30. The accreditation includes such electro-plumbing products as Whirlpools (covered by UL 1795), spas (covered by UL 1563) and the components within them. Other products fitting within the scope of this accreditation include electrical faucets, flushometer valves and similar plumbing fixtures utilizing electrical components.
The ANSI accreditation enables IAPMO R&T to expand its menu of certification services in order to ease the burden placed on many clients, which previously have had to certify their products for the plumbing aspects of their use through IAPMO R&T and the electrical aspects through another third-party certification body. This, of course, added cost and time to the process, thus slowing the product’s delivery to market.

IAPMO R&T certifies and lists electrical, plumbing, mechanical and solar products according to established US and Canadian codes and standards, ensuring continuous compliance to such documents. IAPMO R&T is part of The IAPMO Group’s family of companies.
