Ohannes Dembekjian has been promoted to Senior Director of Continuous Compliance for IAPMO R&T, North America’s premier plumbing and mechanical product certification agency. The promotion was announced Friday by The IAPMO Group’s Chief Executive Officer GP Russ Chaney.
IAPMO R&T’s Continuous Compliance department each year conducts more than 3,000 audits worldwide at manufacturing and warehouse facilities seeking to maintain their products’ certification or establish a new certification. These surveillance audits ensure that listed products have remained in compliance with all applicable standards since the product was originally tested and certified while also ensuring compliance to the Uniform Plumbing Code®.
Dembekjian, who has served since Jan. 1, 1999, as director of Continuous Compliance, manages around 20 contracted inspectors stationed strategically all over the globe. He began working with IAPMO R&T as a contracted inspector in 1991, solely performing audits on behalf of IAPMO R&T. Since joining IAPMO R&T full time, Dembekjian has served as Middle East advisor to IAPMO Group CEO Chaney. His knowledge of this region and his unique understanding of the customs have proven to be invaluable assets to The IAPMO Group. Today, he contributes to policy development and implementation while managing IAPMO R&T staff located in Abu Dhabi.
Prior to his work with IAPMO R&T, Dembekjian worked as plant manager for Plastic Services and Products and before that worked for PW Pipe. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Baghdad in Iraq. Dembekjian immigrated to the United States in 1982.
