Recent revisions to the city of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety’s (LADBS) rules and regulations concerning third‐party certification bodies impact some organizations — but not IAPMO R&T.
For more than a decade, North America’s premier provider of third‐party certification of plumbing and mechanical products has been accepted by LADBS as a Nationally Recognized Listing/Product Certification agency, and IAPMO R&T maintains that acceptance under the revised guidelines [LAMC 98.0502].
Under the revised Guidelines for Recognition of Listing/Product Certification Agencies for Plumbing, Mechanical and Fire Suppression Products, which became effective in August 2011, such acceptance is predicated by accreditation under ISO/IEC Guide 65, General Requirements for Bodies Operating Product Certification Systems. IAPMO R&T is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) — and has maintained these accreditations continuously for 16 and nine years, respectively.
“The new guidelines make it more difficult for some certification bodies to gain acceptance from LADBS, but we feel it’s important to clarify that IAPMO R&T’s 10‐plus years of acceptance is completely unaffected,” said Anish Desai, IAPMO R&T director of Certification. “IAPMO R&T’s Marks of Conformity are every bit as recognizable and trusted in Los Angeles as they’ve ever been.”
