IAPMO’s Uniform Evaluation Service (UES) Issues EC-015 Evaluation Criteria for Twisted Steel Micro-Rebar (TSMR) In Concrete

IAPMO’s Uniform Evaluation Service (UES) is pleased to announce that Evaluation Criteria (EC)-015, Twisted Steel Micro-Rebar (TSMR) In Concrete, dated December 2013, was approved by the Evaluation Committee and is posted on the UES website.

IAPMO UES evaluation criteria are developed through a public comment process and ultimately dispositioned in a public meeting by the Evaluation Committee. IAPMO UES criteria are based on requirements from the Uniform Family of Codes and/or the International Family of Codes, or codes published by other entities.

“IAPMO UES staff is extremely pleased to have the support of industry experts in the development of our criteria,” said Brian Gerber, PE, SE, UES technical director. “We appreciate the hard work provided by the industry in developing criteria. Where would we be without the dedicated input provided, the different points of view and expertise? Such help is critical in development of documents to help the code industry and ultimately the public. The preparation process and resulting criteria belong to all participants, not just UES.”

The IAPMO UES certification program is built upon IAPMO’s more than 70 years of experience in evaluating products for code compliance. Accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), IAPMO UES operates under ISO/IEC Guide 65, “General Requirements for Bodies Operating Product Certification Systems.”

IAPMO UES Director Richard Beck, PE, CBO, MCP, explains a little about the UES philosophy on UES criteria: “When we consulted others about the formation of our Uniform Evaluation Service, the Structural Engineers of California asked that we avoid duplicating existing criteria. We note that EC-015 is unique and its issuance honors our commitment to SEAOC, as well as our responsibilities to the public and code officials across the country. EC-015 fills a gap, providing transparency by defining code requirements, yielding a level playing field for manufacturers of twisted steel micro-rebar who are seeking recognition in an evaluation report. UES criteria are available without charge on our website, at any time to anyone, including such stakeholders as architects, contractors, specifiers, designers and, of course, code officials.”

IAPMO UES offers a full range of recognition opportunities, including recognition for the applicable national model codes, as well as Florida, California and various other state codes, and certain international codes. The UES program lowers the cost and increases the value to code officials of these reports by combining all of these recognitions in one concise report prepared by an internationally recognized product certification body.
