Cross-Connection Control Professional Qualifications Standard
ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 5000-2015, Cross-Connection Control Professional Qualifications Standard, has been designated as an American National Standard by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and is now available for purchase.
ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 5000 provides minimum performance and testing requirements for backflow prevention assemblies, and establishes minimum requirements for backflow prevention assembly testers, cross-connection control surveyors, backflow prevention assembly repairers, fire protection system cross-connection control testers, and backflow prevention program administrators. Stakeholders from all parts of the backflow prevention industry came together to update and expand this document, which is the only cross-connection control professional qualifications standard approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
“ASSE Series 5000 has been the gold standard for cross-connection control professional qualifications since it was first released in 1990,” said Series 5000 Working Group Chairman Sean Cleary. “Referenced in all three model plumbing codes used in the United States – including the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) – this ANSI-approved standard provides the blueprint for cross-connection control certification within the United States and internationally.”
ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 5000-2015 has added Standard #5063, Minimum Performance Requirements for Testing Air Valve and Vent Inflow Preventers, and added an alternative path for becoming ASSE 5120 (Surveyor) certified. Each of ASSE Series 5000’s standards were reviewed and updated to include changes to codes and product standards for backflow prevention assemblies and devices. Additionally, Appendices A through G – including vocabulary and definitions – were reviewed for consistency and expanded with valuable information.
